What do we do?
In alignment with the National Intelligence Agency Act, the NIA is entrusted with advancing the security of The Bahamas through the following core functions:
- Coordinated Intelligence Efforts:
Facilitate seamless collaboration and strategic planning among law enforcement agencies and government departments to deliver a unified, proactive response to national security threats. - Intelligence Collection:
Conduct investigations and gather intelligence on activities that may pose threats to the sovereignty, safety, and stability of The Bahamas. - Analysis and Intelligence Management:
Systematically analyze, assess, and securely retain intelligence to inform operational decisions and long-term strategic planning. - Regional and International Collaboration:
Foster robust networks and partnerships with regional and global intelligence and security entities to enhance information exchange and collective threat response. - Global Communication Channels:
Establish and maintain secure lines of communication with international intelligence counterparts to promote the timely sharing of critical information. - Advisory Role to the National Security Council:
Provide strategic intelligence and security insights to support informed decision-making at the highest levels of government. - Support to Law Enforcement:
Cooperate with and assist national law enforcement agencies in the collection and dissemination of actionable intelligence to strengthen their operational effectiveness.
Through these objectives, the NIA plays a pivotal role in protecting the nation’s interests and ensuring the long-term safety and resilience of The Bahamas.
