Anthony Ferguson Director, NIA

Mr. Anthony J. Ferguson currently serves as Director of the NIA, bringing over 40 years of exemplary service in law enforcement and national security to the role. Appointed on 5 October 2020, Director Ferguson leads the NIA with a commitment to innovation, integrity, and strategic intelligence operations that safeguard the sovereignty and security of The Bahamas.

A career law enforcement officer, Mr. Ferguson served as the 7th Commissioner of Police in the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), assuming the post in October 2017 following his promotion to Deputy Commissioner. He initially joined the RBPF Executive Team in June 2011, where he led the Crime Management Department and played a pivotal role in the modernization of policing strategies and crime response initiatives.

Throughout his distinguished career, Director Ferguson held several key leadership roles within the RBPF, including in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), and Uniform Division. His operational and strategic experience spans counter-narcotics, transnational crime, intelligence analysis, and frontline policing.

He holds an Associate of Arts degree in Law and Criminal Justice and has completed extensive international training, including:

  • FBI National Executive Institute – Session XLI
  • International Commanders Leadership Program – Bramhall, United Kingdom
  • Criminal Investigation Training – West Yorkshire Police Training School, U.K.
  • Drug Commanders Academy Training Course – El Paso, Texas, USA
  • Management and Leadership Program – University of Leicester, United Kingdom along with several prestigious Law Enforcement courses.

Director Ferguson’s long-standing commitment to public service and excellence has earned him numerous prestigious honors, including:

  • RBPF Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct
  • Meritorious Service Medal
  • King’s Police Medal (KPM)
  • Commonwealth of The Bahamas Medal of Distinction (CD)

Director Ferguson continues to lead with vision and integrity, ensuring the NIA remains a cornerstone of national security dedicated to intelligence excellence, strategic foresight, and the protection of The Bahamas and its people.
